1. Pray for their relationship with God: that they may know “how wide and long and
high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses
knowledge” (Ephesians 3:18-19).
2. Pray that at an early age they come to love Christ as their Savior and Lord, and eagerly allow God to accomplish His
purpose throughout their lives without hindrance or hesitation (Philippians 2:12-13).
3. Pray for them to develop godly attributes and
character: that they will be protected from
attitudes of inferiority or superiority, respect authority, hate sin, and be
able to control their tempers. In sum
pray that they will exhibit the fruits of the Holy Spirit in their lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, thankfulness, submission,
perseverance, humility, hope, and courage (Galatians 5:19-23; Colossians 3:1-25).
4. Pray for the relationships they will have
with their friends: that they choose
godly friends who will build them up in the Lord, be kept from harmful
friendships that would lead them astray, be firm in their convictions, and
withstand peer pressure (1 Corinthians 15:33). Pray also that
they would befriend the lonely and help the lost.
5. Pray for their protection from all harm: from the evil one, enemies, temptation,
drugs, alcohol, illicit sex, accidents, and illness (Matthew 6:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8).
6. Pray for their future. Pray that they will be wise in their choice
of a mate if God leads them to marry—someone who loves Christ deeply and
consistently puts others before him or herself (1 Corinthians 7:39; 9:5).
Pray for those who will marry your children and grandchildren: that they even now are being raised in or
influenced by a godly Christian home and friends, that they remain pure, and that they all enjoy very happy,
blessed marriages. Also pray that your
children and grandchildren, and their future spouses, will be wise in choosing their churches, ministries, jobs, and homes all their lives long, and will use their God-given gifts, talents, and abilities in a maximum way. Ask the Lord to direct and provide that their
education be excellent at every stage, well preparing them for His very best for His glory, their good, and the good of those around them (2 Timothy 2:15; Philippians 4:19).
